Truespeed update - May 2021

It's been 8 months since we went live with Truespeed in Saltford and the best thing I can say about it in our home is it's allowed me to forget about broadband.  That's just how it should be.  It should just be there when you need it.  Here's a little example; I am helping a friend out setting up a new PC.  He's a prolific email user.  Last night I downloaded 30Gb of email files I didn't even notice it. There was no impact on our network whatsoever.

What's been happening with Saltford Truespeed then?  After finishing the North East side of the village apart from a few old "condemned" BT Poles, Truespeed has signed off two more segments of the village.  The South East and North West sides are being built right now (May 2021) with the South East being ready for Service within the next month or two.

The local Community is always important to Truespeed.  In Saltford, they have committed to providing a free for life service to Saltford Primary School, The Saltford Library and Post Office HUB and Saltford Hall.  Over ten years this could save the Saltford Community Association (SCA) over £15,000!  As part of the current work, Saltford School and the HUB will be ready first.

Thanks to this SCA will be extending it's Free Saltford WiFi which should cover most of the Memorial Gardens.  I've suggested the Little Coffee Shop might do the same.

You will see Fibre Cable appearing on Telegraph Poles and small orange ducting appearing at the base. This shows the service date is very close.  Truespeed engineers will be installing Distribution Points (DP) up the poles and in some cases under the BT inspection covers. The DP allow their engineers to select and individual fibre for connection to your home.

Each fibre is not shared with others (as it is with both BT and Virgin technology), is dedicated, uncontended, active ethernet, right to your home.  This means if your next door neighbour is downloading the latest game or 4k movie your speed is not affected. No more glitching right at the critical part of "Line of Duty"!

The covid crisis has introduced many of us to a new normal.  Now working from home is going to be the done thing and commuting often avoided.  Many broadband companies have cottoned on to this.  I laugh out loud at the BT advert where they now guarantee their broad band by backing it up with a 4G router!  That's like saying we know its unreliable but try this competing technology.

In 8 months Truespeed has been pretty bullet proof.  We have one very small issue and one planned upgrade at 3am which nobody even noticed.
